General Information

General Information

The Thrive 2055 Capstone Report documents the design and completion of a visionary planning effort to engage the citizens of the 16-county focus area: the tristate region that surrounds Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is the story of how a unique consortium of volunteers from the public, private, educational and nonprofit sectors worked together to envision a prosperous future, determine desired outcomes and produce a 40-year action plan with far-reaching and
achievable goals.

A graphic map visualizing the tristate, 16-county Thrive region in Southeast Tennessee, Northwest Georgia and Northeastern Alabama.

This document is the culmination of the first 2 phases of the Thrive 2055 process it illustrates goals, objectives, actions, and tasks organized by the Thrive 2055 initiatives. This plan is a living and working tool that is designed to grow and evolve as many dedicated volunteers help carry ideas forward into actions. Most importantly, it is designed to help chart progress on a long-term path with short term steps.

Thrive 2055 spent the year 2012 listening to the desires and needs of individuals from communities both small and large, rural and urban, young and old. That feedback helped create our Priorities and Initiatives, as well as our Regional Vision: Educated People with Good Jobs Living in a Great Place. As the project continues to gather input and ideas from people across the region, that Vision guides our process. Take a look at the Regional Vision Handbook to learn the story of where we are now as a region and where we can go if we work together.

This report provides an overview of demographic, socioeconomic, and geographic characteristics and trends for the THRIVE 2055 Region ("the region") and highlights key issues, opportunities, and constraints to be considered as part of the Thrive 2055 process. It is intended to help inform and serve as a foundation for discussion among regional stakeholders and the community-at-large as part of the THRIVE 2055 process. In addition, it is intended to provide a concise "snapshot" of where the region is today that can be used to track our progress towards the implementation of our vision (yet to be defined).

This document includes the framing questions, indicators and discussion questions related to the eight regional drivers. Two regional drivers are assigned to each of the four working groups. The files have been reduced in size to fit on 11x17 pages and for ease of downloading. Record of Public Input

Record of Public Input

In early Spring 2014, people from all over the region responded to a survey asking them to help Thrive 2055 focus its efforts. Participants ranked their most important natural features and transportation improvements, provided their ideas for our region's identity, and told us what types of local education programs they felt were most effective. This document summarizes those results.

This file contains a series of graphics showing the frequency of terms used in responses to the questions. These results are from the Chattanooga Women's Leadership Institute special event.
